JCSU Basketball to Tangle With WSSU on Wednesday Night

Charlotte, N.C. (Jan. 26, 2016) - The Johnson C. Smith men's basketball team will look to continue its success in Division play when it travels to Winston-Salem State for a key CIAA Southern Division tilt on Wednesday evening. Tipoff for the women's game will be at 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. from WSSU's C.E. Gaines Center.
The JCSU men (10-8, 5-4 CIAA, 3-0 Southern), fresh off an 89-81 win over rival Livingstone on Monday night, are currently riding a three-game winning streak and stand at 3-0 in CIAA Southern Division play. The Golden Bulls had three players score at least 20 points in the win over Livingstone. Leading the way was senior
Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) with 24 points while hauling in 14 rebounds against the Blue Bears. Fellow senior
Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) was good for 23 points while nailing three shots from long range. Lemon currently stands as the second-leading scorer in the league with 21.2 points per game.
Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) went 7-for-10 from the field and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line, scoring 22 points for the Golden Bulls.
The Rams are coming off a 66-64 home win over Fayetteville State. Against the Broncos, WSSU rallied back from a seven point halftime deficit to improve to 8-11 overall, 2-6 in CIAA play and 1-2 in divisional action. The Rams had three players in double figures, led by C.J. Ford's 13 points. Teammate T.J. Wilson secured a double-double with an 11 point, 10 rebound effort while Rayvon Harris had 10 points.
Collectively, JCSU is riding a season-high three-game winning streak. The Golden Bulls also put together a three-game streak from Dec. 15-Jan. 2 in wins over Lincoln, Virginia Union and Wingate.
On the women's side, JCSU is reeling from a 65-54 loss to the rival Blue Bears. Against Livingstone, JCSU suffered from a dismal 26.7% (16-of-60) shooting effort. JCSU also was plagued by 25 turnovers that led to 21 Livingstone points. Leading the way for the gold and blue was sophomore

Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) had 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Golden Bulls.
The Winston-Salem State (8-9, 4-4 CIAA, 2-1 Southern) women claimed a 51-44 win over Fayetteville State on Monday. The Lady Rams got 15 points off the bench from Jasmine Carter. Carter knocked down three from long distance in the win.
