Charlotte, N.C. (Jan. 29, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University basketball teams will continue CIAA Southern Division play on Saturday when it travels to Shaw for a doubleheader.

The JCSU women improved to 13-8, 6-4 CIAA and 2-2 in Southern Division play in a 62-58 comeback win at Winston-Salem State on Wednesday night.  Against the Rams, JCSU's A'Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.) was the leading scorer on the night, knocking down 16 points while hitting three from long range.  Senior Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) just missed a double-double, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Amena Brent (Chicago, Ill.) rounded out the JCSU scoring, finishing with 10 points and snagging six rebounds.

JCSU was able to battle back from a 10 point fourth quarter deficit to take the win.  JCSU grabbed their first lead at 52-51 at the 4:05 mark when Ussery got a jumper to go and held off WSSU down the stretch to take the win in front of a capacity crowd in the Gaines Center.

Shaw (15-5, 7-1 CIAA, 3-0 Southern) enters after a 68-63 win at Fayetteville State.  Against the Broncos, Shaw had four players score in double figures, led by Tabitha Anderson's 17 points.  Anderson also added seven assists.  Teammate Fantasha Tyson had 14 points while Laquisha Taylor and Kaula Jacks had 12 and 10 points, respectively.  Shaw also got a monster performance from Eboni Ross, as she hauled in 17 rebounds in the win.

For the JCSU men (10-9, 5-5 CIAA, 3-1 Southern Division), the Golden Bulls look to regroup after watching a 17 point second half lead disappear in a disappointing 78-73 loss at Winston-Salem State.  Sophomore Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) scored 18 second half points for JCSU but it was not enough to pull out the win.  Davis would finish with 22 points.  Senior Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia Ga.) had 16 points and eight rebounds while Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Bears come into the game after dropping a 74-68 decision at Fayetteville State in their last outing.  Larry Richardson would pace the Bears with a game-high 25 points while David Madol chipped in 17 points in the loss.  DeAron Ward also helped in the Shaw effort by contributing 13 rebounds.

The doubleheader at Spaulding Gym will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the women's game followed by the men's game at approximately 4:00 p.m.
