JCSU Basketball Looks to Bounce Back at Elizabeth City St.

Elizabeth City, N.C. (Jan. 8, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's basketball teams will continue their CIAA road trip and will both look to bounce back after suffering losses to Chowan, when they take on Elizabeth City State at the R.L. Vaughan Center on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9.
The JCSU (7-6, 2-2 CIAA) men's team looks to rebound after Chowan clawed back from a 17 point second half deficit to defeat the Golden Bulls on Thursday night in Murfreesboro. Against the Hawks, JCSU got 20 points from
Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) and 19 from
Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.). Lemon finished 9-of-17 from the field, including a 2-for-8 from three-point range. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Pratt shot 8-of-11 on the night and went 3-of-4 from the free throw line against the Hawks and had seven rebounds in the outing.
Sophomore guard
Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) was the other JCSU player in double figures with 11 points. Davis went 4-of-5 from the free throw line and shot 3-of-7 from the field. He also led the Golden Bulls in assists with four.
Elizabeth City St. (5-6, 2-2 CIAA) is flying high after topping the two-time defending CIAA champion Livingstone Blue Bears in their last outing, 76-72. Against Livingstone, Miykael Faulcon and DeCarlos Anderson combined for 45 points in the win. The Vikings reeled off a 14-1 run over the last 3:05 and held Livingstone without a field goal en route to the win.
On the women's side, the Golden Bulls (9-6, 2-2 CIAA) enter the game after Chowan took a 68-60 win on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks used an 11-3 run over the final three minutes to take the win. JCSU got 14 points from

senior
Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and 10 from sophomore
Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.). Elizabeth City State (4-8, 1-3 CIAA) enters after suffering a 70-49 loss to Livingstone in the previous outing. Sophomore Breona Jones scored 13 points, 11 in the second half while teammate Jayln Brown scored 12 points.
Tipoff for the women's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the R.L. Vaughan Center, with the men's game scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
