Box Score 3 JCSU Volleyball Goes 1-2 at CIAA Roundup No. 2
Winston-Salem, N.C. (Oct. 2, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team went a combined 1-2 during play at the second CIAA Volleyball Roundup at Winston-Salem State.
On Saturday, the Golden Bulls opened up play with a 3-1 win over Elizabeth City State. Against the Vikings,
Maya Washington (West Columbia, S.C.) had 12 kills while teammates
Makayla Adams (Michigan City, Ind.) and
Amirah Burnett (Baltimore, Md.) each rapped out eight kills. Collectively JCSU had eight aces in the match with
Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.) and
Georgina Diaz (Lincolnton, N.C.) each having three while
Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) had two. McNeil also dished out 33 assists while Diaz led the way with 14 digs.
In match two, JCSU fell to a traditionally strong Chowan team, 3-0. Against the Hawks, Adams led the way with five kills while McNeil added 11 assists and seven digs.
In the final match of the weekend on Sunday, the Golden Bulls dropped a 3-0 decision to Virginia State. Washington once again led the way for JCSU, collecting six kills. McNeil was able to hand out 14 assists while Diaz contributed six digs in the loss.
JCSU now stands at 3-8 overall and 2-6 in CIAA play. The Golden Bulls will step out of conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 4, hosting local neighbor Belmont Abbey at Brayboy Gym at 7:00 p.m. JCSU will then travel to rival Livingstone on Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. CIAA tilt with the Blue Bears.
