JCSU Football Heads to Shaw for Final Road Game of 2016

Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 20, 2016)
– The Johnson C. Smith University football team will take to the road for the final time this season looking to break a three-game losing skid when it takes on Shaw at Durham County Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

JCSU enters the game losers of their past three games, including a disappointing 37-21 defeat last Saturday at Fayetteville State. After leading 14-13 at the half, JCSU allowed the Broncos to reel off 17 unanswered points to take the 27-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Golden Bulls would get a 1-yard touchdown rush from sophomore quarterback Harold Herbin (Fayetteville, N.C.) to claw back to within 27-21 but FSU sealed the win by closing out the scoring with a touchdown and a field goal in the late stages of the fourth quarter to provide the 37-21 final. Herbin threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the loss and also rushed for 43 yards and a score for the Golden Bulls.

Shaw enters the game winless on the season after suffering a 23-12 loss at Livingstone last Saturday. The Bears got 178 yards on an 18-of-32 passing performance by quarterback Timothy Abbott. Abbott also was the leading Bear rusher, gaining 52 yards on seven carries. Receiver Trevante Long caught seven passes for 74 yards to lead Shaw.
