Box Score JCSU Women's Basketball Takes 81-72 Win Over Lander

Spartanburg, S.C. (Nov. 19, 2016) –
The Johnson C. Smith women's basketball team had five players score in double-figures and shot 54.5% from long range to down Lander, 81-72 in the Courtyard Classic hosted by Converse College on Saturday afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Golden Bulls earned the win after scoring 31 points off of 27 Lander turnovers. JCSU was able to make 13 steals on the afternoon in addition to holding the opposition to just 36.9% shooting (24-of-65).  Lander also shot just 21.7% from three-point range.

Senior guard Anika Jones (Shelby, N.C.) had 20 points on the afternoon after putting together a 7-of-12 effort from the field that included a 2-of-4 outing from long range. Jones also had eight rebounds and five assists on the afternoon.  Teammate Blaire Thomas (Waterloo, Iowa) connected for 15 points while Kendall Adams (Opelika, Ala.) had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She finished 6-of-8 from the field.

Rounding out the double-digit scorers for the Golden Bulls were Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.) and Krista White (Dayton, Ohio). Jordan finished with 12 points and four assists while White was a perfect 3-of-3 on the afternoon, finishing with 10 points.

The win mark's JCSU's fourth in a row since dropping the season opener to Slippery Rock. Each of JCSU's last two wins have come against regionally ranked opponents in the Southeast Region. JCSU downed sixth-ranked Francis Marion on Friday night, while Lander is ranked second in the region.

For their efforts, Jones and Jordan were each named to the All-Classic team.

The Golden Bulls improve to 4-1 on the season and will return to Brayboy Gym on Saturday, Nov. 26, hosting local rival Queens at 3:00 p.m.
