Charlotte, N.C. (Dec. 15, 2016) –  The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid while rolling to a 71-50 win over Tuskegee on Thursday night in Brayboy Gym.
JCSU jumped ahead 7-5 with aÂ
Christian Kirchman (Roanoke, Va.) jumper but Tuskegee quickly tied it at 7-7 after a Myles Thomas basket with 14:49 left. That was the last time in the game the Golden Tigers would threaten, as JCSU steadily built a lead in the first half that would eventually balloon to 16 points after aÂ
Gabon Williams (Charlotte, N.C.)Â three-pointer made it 38-22 with 31 seconds left before the half.
In the second half, Tuskegee would cut the JCSU lead to just nine points at 49-40 after Joshua Culver dropped a layup with 11:45 remaining. The Golden Bulls responded again, this time using a 13-0 run capped by a breakaway dunk byÂ
Malik Ford (Salisbury, N.C.)Â to stretch the lead to 62-40 with 6:00 to play.
Tuskegee would get no closer than 17 points, as JCSU cruised to the 71-50 win and avenging a 61-53 loss to the Golden Tigers back on Dec. 4.
JCSU's
Gabon Williams scored a game-high 16 points while senior teammateÂ
Christian Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) contributed 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Junior guard
Christian Kirchman finished with nine points. Tuskegee's Myles Thomas scored a team-high 15 points in the loss.
The win improves JCSU to 4-6 on the year while Tuskegee falls to 1-10.
With the nonconference portion of the schedule complete, the Golden Bulls will open CIAA play this Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Lincoln.
