Golden Bulls Travel to Rival Livingstone on Saturday

Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2016) –The Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's basketball teams will look to continue their winning ways when it travels to rival Livingstone on Saturday for a key CIAA Southern Division doubleheader.

The JCSU women's team enters the game after taking an important road win at St. Augustine's on Wednesday night.  Against the Falcons, JCSU got a double-double from senior
Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) when she posted 15 points while securing 10 rebounds.  Porter shot 6-of-13 from the field in the winning effort and was key on the offensive glass, securing six offensive boards.  Freshman A'Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.) also proved key in the Golden Bulls victory, as she scored 14 points while splashing down a pair of three pointers.  She also finished a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the win.

Livingstone (12-10, 7-6 CIAA, 4-3 Southern Division) after controlling Fayetteville State on Wednesday night.  Against the Broncos, the Blue Bears got a team-high 18 points from Ariana De'Jesus.  Brittany Taylor also had 17 for Livingstone while Taylor Daniels and Zena Lovette finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

For the men, JCSU enters as the first-place team in the Southern Division after downing St. Augustine's on Wednesday night.  The Golden Bulls used a 12-0 run in the just under the midway mark of the second half to put the Falcons away.  Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) continues to score at will, as he poured in a game-high 21 points.  Lemon currently leads the league in scoring with 21.2 points per game. 

Senior Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) had 19 points against the Falcons while Diondre Pratt (Morven, N.C.) chipped in 15.  Joshua Linson (San Antonio, Tex.) also had a good night with 12 points for the Gold and Blue.

Livingstone also comes into the matchup hot, as they took down Fayetteville State in their last outing.  Against the Broncos, Ty Newman led a balanced Blue Bear attack by scoring 22 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.  Daryl Trynham had 19 points while Juwan Cole (14), Eric Dubose (13) and Jimmy Wilson (10) also scored in double-digits.

Tipoff for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. for the women, with the men to follow at approximately 4:00 p.m. at Trent Gym.
