Imani Scott's Walk-off Double Sends JCSU to Doubleheader Split with Salem International

Imani Scott belted a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Johnson C. Smith University softball team to a 6-5 win in game two of a doubleheader against visiting Salem International to preserve a doubleheader split.
Scott, an Atlanta, Ga. product laced the game-winner over the left fielder's head to drive in sophomore
Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.). Green was placed on second as the game went to the international tie breaker rule.
JCSU jumped ahead early in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) got it all started when she ripped a single to right field that plated
Melissa Vierra (Tracy, Cal.) who earlier reached on a fielder's choice. Greene would then drive in two runs with a single of her own to give JCSU the 3-1 lead.
After the Tigers scratched across a run in the third inning, JCSU added two more in the fourth inning to make it 5-2.
Miranda Ricafrente (Jacksonville, Fla.) would score on a throwing error then Scott drove in
Mariah Harris (New Bern, N.C.).After SIU scored a run in the fifth, they battled back to tie it at 5-5 after scoring two in the sixth thanks to a Jordan Whitaker sacrifice fly that scored Monika Garabedian. The other Tiger run came across when Vanessa Jimenez scored on a fielding error by the JCSU left fielder.
SIU would then threaten in the seventh inning, putting two runners aboard, but the JCSU defense recorded the final two outs, a fly out to center field and a line out to shortstop to end the threat.
JCSU would strike again in the seventh, but SIU gunned down Archibald and home as she tried to score from second base after a Tiger throwing error.
In the SIU eighth, they advanced a runner to third after a sacrifice bunt, but Harris struck out Whitaker for the second out and forced Sam Perez to ground out to end the threat.
In the JCSU eighth, Greene was placed on second base using the international tie breaker rule and after Ricafrente flied out and a Harris groundout, Scott delivered her heroics.
In game one, neither team was able to get much offense going. JCSU did scratch across a run in the first inning after Jefferson ripped a shot up the middle that plated Vierra.
JCSU held that lead until the fourth inning, when SIU scratched across a run to tie it a 1-1. The Tigers then made it 2-1 in the fifth when Tori Butler cranked a solo home run to left field. Following Butler's blast, SIU pitcher Kayla Lynch say down the next six Golden Bull batters to take the 2-1 final in game one.
In game one, JCSU was led by
Monique Jefferson, as she went 1-of-3 with an RBI. In game two
Tia Greene went 1-of-3 with two RBI.
Imani Scott also had two RBI on a 2-of-3 outing.
Breanna Archibald and
Mariah Harris also added an RBI each for JCSU in the win.
Mariah Harris got the complete-game win for JCSU, improving to 1-1 on the season while striking out five SIU batters. Katie Holestin took the loss for the Tigers, giving up 11 hits on the afternoon.
The Golden Bulls improve to 1-3 on the season and will host St. Andrews University on March 4 for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
