Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 20, 2016) –  Visiting Shaw University used a big third quarter and had four players score in double figures to spoil senior night for the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team, 91-83 in the regular-season finale in Brayboy Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears' Laquisha Taylor used an 8-of-10 shooting performance to score 20 points to lead all scorers.  Teammate Kaula Jacks had 18 while Eboni Ross and Tabatha Anderson each had 14 in the win.

The Golden Bulls got a game-high 15 points from junior MaryAnna Moore (Laurens, S.C.). Moore finished with a 6-of-9 shooting effort and was 3-of-6 from the free throw line in the loss.  Junior teammate Krista White (Dayton, Ohio) contributed 13 points while freshman A'Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.) went for 12 points.  Senior Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) had 11 points and brought down 16 rebounds, 13 of which were of the offensive variety.  Senior forward Larryqua Hall (Atlanta, Ga.) also had a big afternoon on the boards, coming down with 14 while scoring seven points.

After JCSU lead 39-37 at halftime, the Bears used a 12-4 run over the last 6:00 of the quarter to build a 61-52 advantage at the end of the third quarter.  The lead would grow to as many as 12 points at 80-68 with 3:40 remaining.  The Golden Bulls would close to 82-78 following a tip-in from Larryqua Hall at the 1:49 mark, but Shaw was able to keep JCSU at bay, eventually building the lead to nine points after two Laquisha Taylor free throws with 38 seconds left.  Two more free throws from Tabatha Anderson would ice the game and provided the 91-83 final.

The loss drops JCSU to 16-11 overall, 9-7 in CIAA and 5-5 in Southern Division play.  Shaw improves to 2-6 overall, 14-2 in CIAA action and they finish Southern Division play with a 9-1 record.
