Basketball To Host Fayetteville State in Black Out Games

Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 5, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University basketball teams will return home to Brayboy Gym on Saturday, Feb. 6 to host Fayetteville State in a CIAA Southern Divisional doubleheader.  Tipoff for the women's game is slated for 2:00 p.m. with the men to follow at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The Golden Bulls will hit the floor after both suffering disappointing divisional losses last Saturday at Shaw. 

The JCSU women (13-9, 6-5 CIAA, 2-3 Southern) were able to tie the game at 51-51 with 7:13 left but Shaw responded with a 21-8 run to up their lead to 72-58 by the end of the third quarter.  The homestanding Bears were not threatened again as they downed JCSU 93-74.

Senior Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) got a game-high 25 points and secured six rebounds in the loss.  Porter also was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.  Fellow senior Amena Brent (Chicago, Ill.) also was in double figures with 11 points.

The JCSU men (10-10, 5-6 CIAA, 3-2 Southern) fell to the Bears 108-93 after being down by only seven points (46-39) at halftime.  Shaw built their largest lead, 77-61 with 7:14 remaining and were not challenged again.

Joshua Linson (San Antonio, Tex.) hit seven three pointers in the loss, finishing with 23 points. Stedmon Lemon (Lithonia, Ga.) had 22 points and 10 rebounds while Alandre Davis (Florence, S.C.) and Christian Kirchman (Roanoke, Va.) each had 12 points.

The games have been dubbed as the Black Out games in honor of the start of Black History Month and fans are encouraged to wear black.
