JCSU Women's Tennis Opens CIAA Play With 7-2 Loss to Shaw
Charlotte, N.C. (Mar. 1, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team opened up CIAA play on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to Shaw at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Tennis Courts.
The Golden Bulls fall to 0-1 in CIAA play and 0-9 overall while Shaw starts conference play at 1-0, and stand at 1-1 overall.
JCSU was only able to take four total games in singles play as Shaw swept all matches that were played. JCSU did pick up a point at No. 6 singles due to a forfeit.
In doubles, the tandem of Khadijah Battle and Jasmine Riddick scratched out four wins, but ultimately fell at their No. 2 match, 8-4. As in the singles, JCSU picked up a point at No. 3 doubles due to a Shaw forfeit.
The Golden Bulls will next travel to Winston-Salem on Saturday, March 5 for the CIAA North/South Roundup. JCSU will take on Chowan at 9:00 a.m. followed by a match with Virginia State at Noon.
