Women's Tennis Riding Four Match Winning Streak

Charlotte, N.C. (Mar. 21, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team is currently riding a four-match CIAA winning streak after claiming three wins this weekend at the CIAA Roundup in Richmond, Va.
Plagued by the possibility of inclement weather for most of the weekend, JCSU was forced to play three matches on Saturday, March 19. In their first match, the Golden Bulls was able to take three singles matches and two doubles contests en route to a 5-2 win over CIAA Northern Division opponent Bowie State.
JCSU's
Khadijah Battle (Atlanta, Ga.) was able to win her match a No. 1 singles while
Kaylin Roman (Atlanta, Ga.) and
Alex Barber (Laurel, Md.) also took their matches at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
In doubles play, Battle and teammate
Jasmine Riddick (Atlanta, Ga.) took an 8-5 win at No. 2 while Barber and
Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, Ga.) won their match at No.3.
In the second match of the day, JCSU was able to take the 5-0 win over Elizabeth City State by sweeping all five contested singles matches. Battle, Riddick and Ogundipe all won their matches by 8-0 scores while
Michaela Colvin (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Roman took their matches by 8-1 counts.
Closing out play on Saturday, JCSU was able to defeat host Virginia Union, 5-1. JCSU was able to take three singles matches and two doubles matches to secure the win.
The sweep, along with the Golden Bulls' 9-0 win over Fayetteville State on March 17, boosts the season record to 5-12 overall and 5-4 in CIAA play.
The Golden Bulls are back in action this Saturday, March 26, hosting nonconference foe West Virginia State at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Tennis Courts.
