Golden Bulls Drop CIAA Softball Twinbill at Fayetteville State

Charlotte, N.C. (April 17, 2016) – Fayetteville State touched Johnson C. Smith University pitching for 25 hits to take a doubleheader sweep over the Golden Bulls at Seabrook Park in Fayetteville, N.C. on Sunday afternoon.
The losses drop JCSU to 10-14 overall and 9-7 in CIAA play while FSU improves to 15-17 and 5-5 in league play.
In game one, each team was able to scratch across a run in their first at bats, but FSU then tallied three runs in the second and three more in the sixth to take a 8-3 lead heading into the final frame. In the JCSU seventh, the Golden Bulls got back-to-back doubles from
Jocelyn Hernandez (Bloomington, Ca.) and
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.), who's hit drove in Hernandez to cut the FSU lead to 8-4. After a
Mariah Harris (New Bern, N.C.) sacrifice fly advanced Mahoney, junior
Morgan Hasty (Salem, Ind.) grounded out to third, scoring Mahoney and drawing to within 8-5.
After
Breanna Archibald (Wendell, N.C.) drew a walk, the Broncos then forced a groundout to third to take the 8-5 win.
In game two, after surrendering a JCSU run in the first, FSU tacked on four runs to take the 4-1 lead. The Broncos would plate three runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth to take the 10-2 win.
Hasty and Harris each had an RBI for JCSU in game two, with Hasty going 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Golden Bulls will return to Biddleville Park for the final home games of the season on Saturday, April 23, when they host St. Andrews in a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
