JCSU Salutes Our Student-Athletes on National Student-Athlete Day

Charlotte, N.C. (April 6, 2016) – Johnson C. Smith University honors all of the Golden Bulls who take part in the spirit of competition as part of National Student-Athlete Day.

National Student-Athlete Day is generally recognized annually on April 6 at NCAA colleges and universities across the nation. The day recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the playing field and who give back to their community through service projects.

National Student-Athlete Day was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society, with partnership from the NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). NCAA involvement began in 1994.

Administrators and coaches have an obligation to our student-athletes and it is our responsibility to provide them with a meaningful experience once they commit to the university.

To date, 34 different JCSU student-athletes have won a multitude of honors including NCAA All-America, All-Atlantic Region and All-CIAA awards.  JCSU has also had one student-athlete named CIAA Player of the Year as well as had one named Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year in their respective sports.

All told, student-athletes from across JCSU's 15 intercollegiate programs have garnered 82 individual honors throughout the 2015-16 athletic year.

If you see a JCSU student-athlete today, thank them for their dedication to making Johnson C. Smith University a better place through their tireless efforts both on and off the field.
