Box Score Bowie State Drops JCSU Football, 52-0

Bowie, Md. (Sept. 10, 2016)
 – Bowie State racked up over 600 yards of total offense while limiting JCSU to only 98 yards en route to a 52-0 win in nonconference football action on Saturday afternoon at Bulldogs Stadium in Bowie, Md.

The Golden Bulls (0-2) held Bowie State on their first possession and were poised to take the early lead when JeJuan McCalston (Covington, Ga.) broke through the Bulldog line and blocked the punt, setting up JCSU at the BSU 17 yard line.  The Golden Bulls could not capitalize on the turnover, as Jordan Lane (Charlotte, N.C.) was hit from behind and fumbled. BSU's Antoine Young picked it up and raced 70 yards to put BSU up 7-0.

After the JCSU offense was forced to punt, BSU went up 14-0 when Maurice Williams capped a five-play, 40 yard drive with a 19-yard run with 8:58 remaining in the first. JCSU would force another BSU turnover when Basir Wright (Douglasville, Ga.) forced quarterback Amir Hall to fumble, giving JCSU another opportunity deep inside Bulldog territory, this time from their 25-yard line.

JCSU was able to drive to the BSU 12, but Matias Lambrecht (Venice, Fla.) had his 29-yard field goal attempt blocked to snuff out the JCSU scoring opportunity. On the ensuing BSU possession, JCSU's James Hardman-Santiago (Flint, Mich.) came away with an interception, giving the Golden Bulls another opportunity at the Bowie State 26.  After JCSU again drove it down to the BSU 15, Lambrecht's 34-yard field goal attempt sailed wide.

BSU would tack on two more second quarter touchdowns to go up 28-0 at the half. The first was a 6-yard run from Amir Hall at the 13:08 mark with the latter coming at 5:43 when Robert Chesson scampered in from seven yards.

In the third quarter, Bowie State cashed in on a 33-yard field goal to make it 31-0 with 11:24 to play. Their lead ballooned to 38-0 on a Brandon Abrams 8-yard rush while Hall scored again with 3:53 on the clock for the 45-0 lead. BSU capped the scoring wen Maurice Williams broke through the JCSU defensive line for a 57-yard run to make it 52-0 with 13:07 to play.

Collectively, BSU piled up 619 yards while running 100 plays compared to JCSU's 98 yards on 60 plays.

JCSU had four players tally seven tackles on the evening with Wright, Lorenz Taylor (Bluffton, S.C.) , Carlo Thomas (East Orange, N.J.) and Desmond Taylor (Picayune, Miss.) all leading the JCSU defense.  Thomas had one tackle for loss while Wright forced and recovered a fumble.

The Golden Bulls will take to the road for their third consecutive road game of the season, travelling to FCS foe Wofford on Saturday, Sept. 17. Game time from Wofford's Gibbs Stadium is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
