Volleyball Drops 3-2 Match to Virginia Union

Box Score \Bowie, Md. (Sept. 18, 2016) – Despite getting double-digit kill performances from juniors
Makayla Adams and Maya Washington, the JCSU volleyball team fell to Virginia Union 3-2 (25-23, 25-19, 20-25, 20-25, 5-15) to wrap up play at the CIAA Roundup in Bowie, Md.

Adams, a product of Michigan City, Ind. led the Golden Bulls by knocking down 12 kills on the afternoon and finishing with a .346 hitting percentage. Washington, from West Columbia, S.C., had 11 kills with Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) registering nine.

JCSU bolted to a 2-0 lead by taking the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-19. Virginia Union roared back to take the third and fourth sets by identical 25-20 scores before ending the match, 15-5 in the fifth and deciding set.

Defensively, JCSU got 16 digs from Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Georgina Diaz (Lincolnton, N.C.) while Washington added 10 on the afternoon.  McNeil also gave out 30 assists on the afternoon.

The loss drops JCSU to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in CIAA play.

The Golden Bulls will jump into CIAA Southern Divisional play on Thursday, Sept. 22 with a 6:00 p.m. match at St. Augustine's.
