Box Score Golden Bulls Volleyball Fall 3-1 on the Road to St. Augustine's
Raleigh,NC. (Sept. 22, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team traveled to St. Augustine's University on Thursday night, falling 3-1 to the Falcons in the CIAA Southern Division opener for both teams.
JCSU started strong, jumping out to a 12-6 lead after an ace from junior
Makayla Adams (Michigan City, Ind.) St. Augustine's fought back, closing the gap to 13-10, but the Golden Bulls went on an 11-3 run to take the first set 25-13.
The Falcons roared back by taking the second set 25-18 and 25-21 in a close third set to lead 2-1. SAU would then jump out to a 20-10 lead in set four and were never threatened, eventually taking the match with a 25-18 win.
Maya Washington (West Columbia, S.C.) continued her strong play by pounding out 11 kills on the night. Adams and sophomore
Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) had nine and eight kills, respectively in the loss.
Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.) had 29 assists while the Golden Bulls were led defensively by
Georgina Diaz (Lincolnton, N.C.) with 10 digs.
St. Augustine's got 19 kills from Shakera Hall and 16 kills from Brittany Jamison.
The loss drops JCSU to 2-5 overall, 1-3 in CIAA play and 0-1 in Southern Division play.
The Golden Bulls will open their home schedule on Monday, Sept. 2 with a home match with Southern Division foe Shaw. Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Brayboy Gym.
