JCSU Volleyball Falls at Johnson & Wales, 3-2

Box Score Charlotte, N.C. (Sept.9, 2016) – Despite getting double-digit performances from two hitters, the Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team dropped a hard fought 3-2 (17-25, 25-14, 25-22, 23-25, 8-15) decision at Johnson & Wales on Thursday night.
Sophomore
Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) led the way, pounding out 17 kills while
Maya Washington (West Columbia, S.C.) had 12 on the match. Junior
Makayla Adams (Michigan City, Ind.) also had a productive outing by knocking down five kills and leading the way in blocks with six solo stops.
Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.) handed out 34 assists and had three aces in the loss.
Defensively, freshman
Georgina Diaz (Lincolnton, N.C.) had 22 digs on the night. Diaz also led JCSU with four aces.
The loss drops JCSU to 1-2 on the season while JWU improves to 8-1. The Golden Bulls will next take to the floor at the CIAA Roundup hosted by Bowie State.
JCSU will take on the host Bulldogs on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Noon followed by a 3:00 p.m. match with Lincoln. Play will wrap up on Sunday, Sept. 18 with a 1:00 p.m. match with Virginia Union.
