JCSU Women's Basketball Runs Away From Clark Atlanta in 72-52 Win
Atlanta, Ga. (Nov. 15, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter to run away from home standing Clark Atlanta in a 72-52 win on Wednesday night.
In a game that featured eight ties and 14 lead changes, JCSU used a decisive 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 54-42 lead following two free throws from sophomoreÂ
Miaya Green (San Antonio, Tex.) at the 6:50 mark
The Golden Bull lead would never get below 12 points the rest of the way and would increase to 16 points (66-49) with 1:09 to play. JCSU would close out the game on 6-2 run to eventually take the 72-52 win.
As a team, JCSU forced 29 Panther turnovers that led to 29 points. The Golden Bulls also shot a 89.3% from the line (25-of-28) and also outrebounded the Panthers 43-37.
Senior guard
Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.) had a game-high 20 points and went 8-of-8 from the line. Freshman
La'Zarea Bowens (Knightdale, N.C.) finished just shy of a double-double, scoring 10 points and bringing down nine rebounds in the win.Â
Malia Rivers (Pageland, S.C.) also chipped in 15 points on the night, going 3-of-6 from three-point distance.
The win improves JCSU to 3-0 on the year while CAU drops to 0-1.
The Golden Bulls will next be in action on Nov. 24-25 when it travels to St. Petersburg, Fla. For the Eckerd College Classic. JCSU will take on host Eckerd at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 and will play Florida Southern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
