Hot Shooting Lincoln Downs JCSU Men's Basketball in CIAA Opener

Charlotte, N.C. (Dec. 14, 2017) – Visiting Lincoln University hit 16 three-pointers while shooting 53.3% from long-range in a 96-89 win over the Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team in the CIAA opener for both schools on Thursday night.

Lincoln (6-4, 1-0 CIAA) had three players score in double-figures, led by Sean James' 31 points.  James went 11-of-19 from the field and 9-of-17 from three-point range to help the Lions tie a school record for most three pointers made in a game.  Elijah Bush had 20 points and Gevon Arrington had 17 in the win.  Umar Saaba just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Bulls (7-3, 0-1 CIAA) got a double-double from senior guard Christian Kirchman (Roanoke, Va.), as he had 23 points and 11 assists.  Fellow senior
Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) led JCSU with 29 points while Arthur Bennett (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Cayse Minor (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively.  Bennett and Aaron Adair (Kernersville, N.C.) each had seven rebounds in the loss.

As a team, JCSU shot 50.8% from the field and 36.8% from deep, but could not keep pace with the hot-shooting Lions.  JCSU dominated the play inside, outscoring Lincoln 42-28 in the paint, but the Lions forced 17 JCSU turnovers, converting those miscues to 30 points.

JCSU will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 16, hosting CIAA Northern Division foe Bowie State.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
