Box Score Livingstone Drops JCSU Men's Basketball 84-77
Charlotte N.C. (Feb. 11, 2017) – Visiting Livingstone College steadily built a second half double-digit lead and withstood a late charge to down Johnson C. Smith University in men's basketball play at Brayboy Gym on Saturday.

After leading 38-34 at halftime, Livingstone went on a 13-2 run to start the second half to boost their lead to 15 points (51-36), their largest of the game.  The Blue Bears held the double-digit cushion through most of the half, but JCSU did manage to trim the deficit to 67-62 following a Christian Kirchman (Roanoke, Va.) three-pointer at the 6:15 mark.

Livingstone then regrouped, pushing the lead back to 74-64 following a David Duncan layup with 3:52 to play.

After JCSU's Robert Davis (West Friendship, Md.) knocked down a free throw to make it 74-68, Livingstone then pushed the lead to 80-70, but a three-pointer from
Gabon Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) followed by another Davis layup make it 80-75 with 49 seconds to play.

After two free throws gave Livingstone the 82-75 lead, Williams cashed in a layup to close to 82-77, but that was as close as the Golden Bulls would get, as Livingstone freshman Roger Ray could close to game by hitting two free throws with 11 seconds to go to provide the 84-77 final.

Ray led five Livingstone players in double-digits, finishing with 17 points. Ramel Belfield added 16 for the Blue Bears while David Duncan finished with 14. Jimmy Wilson also added 12 while Samuel McClendon had 10. Both Duncan and Wilson had double-doubles, with Duncan hauling in 13 rebounds and Wilson adding 10.

JCSU's Robert Davis finished with a game-high 19 points while Gabon Williams added 18. Senior Christian Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds and Christian Kirchman finished with 10 points.

The loss drops JCSU to 10-14 overall, 6-8 in CIAA play and 3-5 in Southern Division play while Livingstone improves to 9-15, 6-8 in the CIAA and 5-3 in the division.

JCSU will travel for the final two regular season games, taking on Winston-Salem State at the Gaines Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and will close the regular season with a road matchup with Shaw on Feb. 18.
