JCSU Women Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Down Livingstone, 64-50

Box Score JCSU Women's Basketball Uses a Big Fourth Quarter to Run Past Rival Livingstone, 64-50

Charlotte N.C. (Feb. 11, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team rode a big fourth quarter to down visiting Livingstone 64-50 in a CIAA Southern Division game on Saturday afternoon at Brayboy Gym.

After leading by just three points after three quarters, the Golden Bulls used a 12-4 run midway through the quarter to take a 54-44 lead with just 2:15 to go. Junior Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.) would get a layup to push the JCSU lead to 56-44 with 1:38 to go. Livingstone then cut the lead to 56-46 on a Zena Lovette basket, but another Jordan basket followed by two free throws extended the JCSU lead to 63-50. Jordan would add a free throw with five seconds left to provide the 64-50 final. All told, Jordan scored JCSU's final seven points in the win, finishing with 13.

Junior teammate Kendall Adams (Opelika, Ala.) led the way for JCSU with 14 points and nine rebounds while senior Krista White (Dayton, Ohio), playing in her final home game, scored 12 points.

As a team, JCSU shot 37.3% from the field while forcing 21 Livingstone turnovers. Those turnovers led to 25 JCSU points.

With the win, JCSU improves to 18-6 overall, 11-3 in CIAA play and 7-1 in the Southern Division while Livingstone drops to 12-12, 7-7 in league play and 4-4 in Divisional action.

The Golden Bulls, having completed their home schedule, will take to the road for the final two regular season games. JCSU plays at Winston-Salem State on Feb. 15 and at Shaw on Feb. 18.

A win over WSSU will earn JCSU the Southern Division crown and a No. 1 seed in the upcoming CIAA Tournament.
