JCSU Women's Tennis Drops Matches to Belmont Abbey and Converse

Belmont, N.C. (Feb. 19, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team dropped two road matches on Saturday, falling to Belmont Abbey 9-0 in Belmont and to Converse 7-2 in Spartanburg, S.C.

Against the Crusaders, JCSU was swept at each match, with Amirah Burnett (Baltimore, Md.) falling in her No. 3 singles match by a 6-1, 6-2 count. Aria Springfield (Atlanta, Ga.) dropped her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1.

In the doubles competition, Belmont Abbey took all three matches, with
Alisa Stephenson (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Burnett falling at No. 3 by an 8-2 count.

After travelling to Spartanburg, JCSU picked up wins at No. 3 doubles, as
Victoria Ogundipe (Jonesboro, Ga.) and Kaylin Roman (Atlanta, Ga.) winning 8-2.

Michaela Colvin (Fayetteville, N.C.) won the other JCSU point at No. 5 singles by downing Abby Roth 6-2, 6-7 (2), 12-10 for her first win of the season.

The losses drop JCSU to 0-4 on the season.
