Box Score Robert Davis Scores 24 as JCSU Wins Second Straight
Charlotte, N.C. -- (Feb. 8, 2017) – Junior
Robert Davis scored a game-high 24 points to help the Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team to their second straight win in a 66-61 decision over St. Augustine's on Wednesday evening.
After leading by just two points (31-29) at halftime, the Golden Bulls used a  6-3 spurt to gather the 37-32 advantage after a free throw from senior
Christian Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) with 17:39 to play. The two teams then would trade baskets, and the lead, on nine different occasions throughout the second half.
With SAU leading 59-54 after an Anthony Gaskins three pointer with 6:04 to go, JCSU would put together a 6-0 run to take the 60-59 lead at the 1:15 mark after a Davis free throw. After an SAU miss, JCSU would garner the rebound and
Christian Kirchman (Roanoke, Va.) would knock down two free throws to push the lead to 62-59. JCSU would then force a turnover and Kirchman again went to the line, canning two more free throws to give JCSU the 64-59 lead. After SAU scored a layup, Kirchman would add a free throw to provide the 66-61 margin.
Davis, a West Friendship, Md. product, had 24 points on a 9-of-17 outing and added two assists on the night. Teammate
Gabon Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) added 15 while
Christian Williams secured his sixth double-double of the year by scoring 13 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
The win improves JCSU to 10-13 overall, 6-7 in CIAA play and 3-4 in Southern Division play while SAU falls to 10-14, 4-9 CIAA, and 1-6 in the Divisional play.
