Charlotte, N.C. -- (Feb. 8, 2017) –
Johnson C. Smith University freshman Maiya Green was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and hit five three-pointers while scoring a career-high 19 points as JCSU rolled by visiting St. Augustine's University 73-57 in CIAA Southern Division women's basketball play on Wednesday night at Brayboy Gym.

SAU would fight back to close the JCSU lead to 23-13 by the end of the quarter but JCSU would push the lead to 32-19 after a Krista White (Dayton, Ohio) basket at the 4:39 mark that forced an SAU timeout. The Falcons would regroup, closing the gap to 34-25 at halftime.

In the third quarter, SAU was able to get back-to-back three-pointers from Maiya Gibson to claw to within 34-31 at the 9:38 mark, but a 14-0 JCSU run boosted the lead back to 48-31 following two Green free throws with 7:07 remaining in the quarter.

Leading 59-40 after the third, JCSU stretched the lead to 21 points (64-43) at the 7:22 mark of the fourth quarter. St. Augustine's would not get to within 12 points the rest of the way as JCSU closed out the game, winning 73-57.

The Golden Bulls managed a 50% (25-of-50) shooting effort and also hit 7-of-14 from long range. JCSU also forced 34 Falcon turnovers that led to 29 points.

The win improves JCSU to 17-6 overall, 10-3 in CIAA play and 6-1 in Southern Divisional games. SAU falls to 3-22, 0-13 and 0-7.
