The season is developing very successfully for the Johnson C. Smith volleyball team. Their confidence is building and they added another notch to their belt with the defeat of the reigning CIAA Champion Winston-Salem State Rams.
JCSU defeated WSSU 3-1, (25-16, 25-22, 23-25 and 28-26) Monday night to solidify their hold near the top of the CIAA's Southern Division.
Freshman
Karizma Brooks led the effort with 10 kills.
Anteesha Smoots added nine kills while
Taylor Smith had seven kills.
Joi Haywood recorded 17 assists.
Gorana Bodganovic (5) and
Cydney Calhoun (3) combined for eight service aces.
Monika Krupa led the defense with seven blocks.
Taylor Hendrickson and
Georgina Diaz contributed 13 digs each.
JCSU improves to 11-5 overall while WSSU falls to 7-12.
The Golden Bulls return to action Thursday (Oct 4) when they travel to face Fayetteville State in another key Southern Division battle. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m. in Capel Arena.
