The 126th anniversary of the playing of the first collegiate football game between HBCUs proved a big disappointment for Johnson C. Smith as the Golden Bulls dropped a 20-9 decision to Livingstone Saturday afternoon inside the Irwin Belk Complex.
Livingstone jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 32-yard pass from Miles Hayes to Justin Ruffin followed by a 37-yard field goal by Antoine Akundu just over five minutes later.
JCSU scored its first points on a safety when the Blue Bears were tackled in their own end zone.
In the second period, Livingstone extended its lead to 17-2 on a 31-yard run by Anthony Faraimo giving LC a 15 point lead at halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, JCSU scored its only touchdown of the day when 
Antonio Wallace connected with 
Braxton Gambrell for 57 yards to cut livingstone's lead to 17-9.
JCSU was held scoreless for the remainder of the game with Akendu's 29-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter providing the final margin of victory, 20-9
JCSU's Wallace was sacked six times and only completed 5 of 25 passes for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Jachin Watkins led the JCSU ground attack with 11 carries for 29 yards.
Marcell Toran led the Golden Bull defense with six tackles.  He was joined by 
Zach Cannon and 
Sa'Von Williams with 5 stops each.
JCSU falls to 2-7 (2-4 CIAA) on the season while Livingstone improves to 3-6 overall, 1-5 in the CIAA.
