The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team ended its season on a disappointing note with a 3-0 loss to Virginia State in the quarterfinal round of the CIAA Volleyball Championship.
It was the third straight loss for a team that had only won one of its last 7 sets going into the tournament

VSU pulled away early with an 8-3 lead at the first timeout. The Trojans continued to extend their lead using a 16-4 run to close out the first set 25-10.

SET 2
The Golden Bulls rallied back in set 2. Â The score was tied 6 times and VSU put on a critical 2-0 run following a timeout to push toward a 25-23 win.
SET 3
Both teams fought back and forth in the third set with the Trojans using a 5-0 run to take the match 25-18.

Monika Krupa led the JCSU offense with 5 kills.
Taylor Smith and
Karizma Brooks had 3 kills each.
Joi Haywood contributed 8 assists while
Georgina Diaz recorded 14 digs.
The Golden Bulls end their season with a 16-10 overall record while Virginia State (21-12) advances to the semifinal round to e Fayetteville State University on November 9 at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.
