JCSU Women fall to regionally ranked Glenville State

Golden Bulls come up short in final seconds

Despite a double-double by Denajah Porter and near double-double by Blaire Thomas, the Golden Bulls women's basketball team came up short against regionally ranked Glenville State in a game played in Brayboy Gymnasium Saturday afternoon (Dec 15).
Porter finished the game with 13 points and 14 rebounds while Thomas dropped a team-high 18 points while grabbing 9 boards.
Jakeyah McNeil (14 pts) and Malie Rivers (10 pts) also contributed to the JCSU offensive effort.
 
Of Note:
Glenville State came into the contest ranked #4 in the D2SIDA  Atlantic Regional Women's Basketball Poll; just behind #3 Virginia Union and just ahead of #5 Bowie State.
The Lady Pioneers are members of the Mountain East Conference
 
How it happened
First Quarter:
After falling behind 11-3 in the opening period, JCSU went on a 7-0 run to cut the GSU lead to 11-10. The Lady Pioneers responded with a 13-5 run of its own to finish the first quarter with a 24-15 advantage.
 
Second Quarter:
Both teams went back and forth with JCSU taking its first lead of the game midway through the quarter (30-29). Glenville fought back to take a 39-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
 
Third Quarter:
JCSU used a 13-0 run to begin the quarter and take a 49-42 lead early in the period. The Golden Bulls scored seven points off turnovers and enjoyed a 14-3 bench points advantage. JCSU held the lead through the quarter, finishing with a 59-53 lead at the end of the period.
 
Fourth Quarter:
Glenville State began to assert itself inside, using a 22-12 advantage in the painted area to force a sixth tie going into the final minute. JCSU missed three shots in the final seconds to fall short of victory
 
Next up:
JCSU travels to Boca Raton, Florida to participate in the Lynn University Classic.  The Golden Bulls will face Saint Leo Tuesday (Dec 18) at noon followed by a matchup with host Lynn Wednesday (Dec 19) at 2:00 p.m.
