Chowan Downs JCSU Women 68-54

Murfreesboro, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2018) –
Senior Asha Jordan scored a team-high 18 points and Monique Hall added 15 but it was not enough as Chowan downed visiting
Johnson C. Smith University in women's basketball play 68-54 on Monday night at the Helms Center in Murfreesboro.

Leading by four at halftime, 29-25, Chowan held JCSU to just 16.7% from the field in the third quarter, as the homestanding Hawks outscored JCSU 17-9. Chowan steadily built a double-figure lead, leading by as many as 14 points (46-32) with 10 seconds remaining in the third.

In the fourth, JCSU trimmed the lead to 48-38 at the 8:33 mark, but it was as close as the Golden Bulls would get.  Chowan then went on a 13-4 run to lead 61-42, their largest of the game with 5:16 to play.  JCSU would get no closer than 14 the rest of the way, as Chowan took the 68-54 win.

Jordan, from Monroe, N.C., paced JCSU by going 5-of-9 from the field, 1-of-1 from long range and 7-of-8 from the line in the loss.  Hall, a product of Melbourne, Fla., scored 15 points and hauled in five rebounds for the Golden Bulls.  Freshman La'Zarea Bowens (Knightdale, N.C.) had a team-high nine rebounds to go along with six points.

The loss drops the Golden Bulls to 15-9 overall and 7-6 in CIAA play while Chowan improves to 18-5 and 10-3 in league play.
