JCSU Women's Basketball Runs Past Shaw on Senior Day, 79-51

Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 24, 2018) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team forced 29 turnovers, converting those into 30 points en route to a convincing 79-51 Senior Day win over Shaw University on Saturday on Brayboy Gym.
The Golden Bulls had little trouble with the outmatched Bears, bolting to a 7-0 lead. JCSU would push their first quarter lead to 15-2 after a
Xena Dove (West Palm Beach, Fla.) layup with 5:10 left. Shaw trimmed the JCSU lead to 10 points (17-7) by the end of the quarter, but JCSU steadily built their lead, taking a 40-21 lead into halftime.
The Golden Bulls continued the pressure, jumping ahead 59-36 by the end of the third quarter and would lead by as many as 31 points (74-43) on the way to the 79-51 win.

Jasmine Carter (Dacula, Ga.) had a game-high 22 points while JCSU sophomore
Malia Rivers (Pageland, S.C.) continued her great late season play, scoring a 18 points. Senior
Asha Jordan (Monroe, N.C.), playing in her final game in Brayboy Gym, had five points and five rebounds while fellow seniors
Monique Hall (Melbourne, Fla.) andÂ
Kendall Adams (Opelika, Ala.) each had four points. Adams had a team-best seven rebounds along with
Jamia Johnson (Durham, N.C.). Maiya Green (San Antonio, Tex.) and freshman
La'Zarea Bowens (Knightdale, N.C.) had eight points each for JCSU.
Shaw had a team-best 14 points from Klintisha Martin while falling to 6-22 overall, 2-13 in CIAA play and 2-8 in the Southern Division.
JCSU completes the regular season with an 18-9 overall mark, 10-6 in CIAA play and 7-3 in the Southern Division.
The Golden Bulls will begin their defense of the CIAA Tournament Championship on Thursday, March 1 with a 3:00 p.m. matchup at Bojangles Coliseum against the winner of the Lincoln/Livingstone game.
