Wingate Drops JCSU Women's Tennis, 9-0
Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 9, 2018) – Visiting Wingate University swept Johnson C. Smith University 9-0 in women's tennis play on Thursday afternoon at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Complex.
The Bulldogs wasted no time, sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1, JCSU's
Aria Springfield (Lilburn, Ga.) and
Cierra Turner (Richmond, Va.) fell in their match by an 8-0 count, as did
Michaela Colvin (Fayetteville, N.C.) and
Alisa Stevenson (Fayetteville, N.C.) at No. 2.
Jada Strickland (Miamisburg, Ohio) and teammate
Halle Parker (Magnolia, Del.) fell in their No. 3 match by an 8-3 score.
In singles competition, Wingate also swept all six matches. Springfield dropped her No. 1 match by a 6-1, 6-1 score followed by a 6-0, 6-0 loss by Turner at No. 2. Parker was narrowly defeated at No. 3, as she took the first set 7-6, but fell in the second set 6-2 and dropped the tiebreaker, 1-0.  At No. 4, Strickland fell by a 6-0, 6-1 score while Stevenson and Colvin dropped their No. 5 and No. 6 matches by identical 8-0 scores.
The loss drops JCSU to 2-2 on the season.
The Golden Bulls will next travel to Belmont Abbey on Feb. 16 for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Crusaders.
