Women's Tennis Drops Virginia Union for Third Straight Win
Charlotte, N.C. (March 24, 2018) – The Johnson C. Smith University women's team claimed their third straight win in a 9-0 decision over visiting Virginia Union University at the CIAA Roundup at the Coleman-Cuthbertson Courts on Saturday morning.
Playing on a frigid morning, JCSU swept the competition, winning both contested doubles matches by 8-0 scores.
In the singles competition, JCSU dropped just one game while sweeping the contested matches.
Halle Parker (Magnolia, Del.) won her ninth match in her last 10 outings and improved to 6-0 in CIAA play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No.1. Â
Aria Springfield (Atlanta, Ga.),
Jada Strickland (Miamisburg, Ohio), and
Cierra Turner (Richmond, Va.) all secured a 6-0, 6-0 wins in their matches while
Alisa Stevenson (Fayetteville, N.C.) won her match at No. 5 by a 6-0, 6-1 score.
The win improves JCSU to 9-7 on the year and 5-1 in CIAA play while the Panthers fall to 3-3 and 2-2 in league play.
