JCSU Softball Falls in Home Doubleheader to Pfeiffer
Charlotte, N.C. (March 7, 2018) – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team opened their home slate with a doubleheader loss to Pfeiffer University, with a 13-3 decision in game one and a 16-0 setback in game two at Biddleville Park on a cool and windy Wednesday afternoon.
Game one saw the visiting Falcons score in each inning, taking a 13-3 win over the Golden Bulls.
Down 13-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, JCSU struck for three runs to avoid the shutout. The Golden Bulls led off with a single from
Alexis D'Louhy (Winnabow, N.C.) and after stealing second and reaching third on a passed ball, D'Louhy raced home when
Shenice Harrison (Leland, N.C.) singled up the middle. Senior
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.) drove in Harrison with a triple to left center and would score on a
Kaitlin Santos (Honolulu, Hawai'i) groundout. Teammate
Sanae Nakoa (Maui, Hawai'i) then doubled, but Pfeiffer was able to get the third out on a grounder to take the 13-3 win.
In game two, Pfeiffer battered JCSU pitching with nine extra base hits. Pfeiffer's Vada Blue Sherrill had an epic outing, blasting three home runs, two of which were grand slams. All told, Sherrill finished 3-of-4 from the plate with 10 RBI.
The visiting Falcons limited JCSU to just four hits in the second game, with Mahoney registering a triple in the loss.
Tatyana Mars (Fayetteville, N.C.) fell to 0-2 after taking the pitching loss for the Golden Bulls while Pfeiffer's Kennedy Lester improved to 4-0 on the season with the win.
The loss drops JCSU to 0-6 on the season while Pfeiffer improves to 14-2.
The Golden Bulls are scheduled to return to the diamond on Saturday, March 10 with a home doubleheader against Rochester College. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Biddleville Park.
