Fayetteville State Takes Softball Doubleheader Over JCSU
Charlotte, N.C. (April 18, 2018) – The Johnson C. Smith University softball team dropped a CIAA Southern Division doubleheader to Fayetteville State on a warm Wednesday afternoon at Lamon Street Park in Fayetteville.
Game one saw JCSU jump on the board first when
Tatyana Mars (Fayetteville, N.C.) delivered a two-out RBI double that plated senior
Tia Mahoney (Hartwell, Ga.). The Golden Bulls struck again in the second inning, this time with Mahoney delivering an RBI double. The lead was short-lived, as FSU put three runs across in the bottom of the second to go ahead 3-2.
FSU would get two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and added three in the sixth to take the 10-3 lead. JCSU would not mount a serious threat in the seventh, as FSU took the 10-3 win.
Game two once again saw the Golden Bulls grab the early lead. JCSU pushed three runs across in the first thanks to a slew of FSU errors followed by an RBI senior by senior
Tia Greene (Huntersville, N.C.).
The Broncos got on the board in the home half of the first and added another in the second inning, closing to within 3-2. After the teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings, FSU took the 4-3 lead and was able to hold the Golden Bulls at bay in the seventh to win game two 4-3 and complete the sweep.
The losses drop JCSU to 7-17 overall and 5-9 in CIAA play while Fayetteville State improces to 9-21 and 8-4 in league play.
JCSU will return home this upcoming Saturday, April 21 to host rival Livingstone. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Biddleville Park.
