JCSU Women's Tennis Advances to CIAA Semifinals After a 5-0 Win over Elizabeth City State

Bowie, Md. (April 19, 2018) – The second-seeded Johnson C. Smith University women's tennis team downed No. 7 Elizabeth City State by a 5-0 count in the first round of the CIAA Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday afternoon in Bowie, Md.

The Golden Bulls won both contested doubles matches by 8-0 scores and earned the third after ECSU forfeited the No. 3 match.

After ECSU forfeited the No. 6 singles match, CIAA Rookie of the Year Halle Parker clinched the match for the Golden Bulls by knocking off the Vikings' Jocelyn Lewis in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

The win improves JCSU to 15-10 overall and more importantly will advance to the semifinals on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Bulls will take on third-seeded Virginia State.  JCSU earned the 8-1 win over the Trojans in the previous meeting between the two teams.
