Golden Bulls take two of three matches at CIAA Round-Up

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 24) – Johnson C. Smith's Volleyball Team won two of three volleyball matches in the CIAA Round-Up II over the weekend. The Round-Up was held on the camapus of Winston-Salem State University.

Following a series opening loss to Virginia State (3-2), the Golden Bulls roared back to defeat Chowan 3-0 on Saturday, Sept 22.  They closed out their portion of the Round-Up defeating Elizabeth City State 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Senior Gorana Bogdanovic and Freshman Karizma Brooks combined for 27 kills in the five-set match against the Lady Trojans.  JCSU took the first two sets before dropping the final three in the 27-25, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25, 6-15 loss.

JCSU quickly regrouped to defeat Chowan 3-0 behind a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 win over the Hawks.

Bogdanovic and Taylor Smith led the offense with a compined 18 kills.  Smith also had two blocks.  Defensively, Georgina Diaz recorded 15 digs.
 

The Golden Bulls closed out the weekend with a 3-0 win over Elizabeth City State.  

Smith recorded a game-high 10 kills with Bogdanovic adding four aces.

Joi Haywood contributed 14 assists and Georgina Diaz added 16 digs.

JCSU improves to 8-5 overall 6-1 CIAA, 1-0 Southern Diviaion

The Golden Bulls return to action on on Thursday, Sept. 27 when they visit Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C.  First serve is set for 6 p.m.
