CHARLOTTE, NC - In its first home match of the season Johnson C. Smith's volleyball team picked up its second straight win, defeating Benedict 3-1 (25-21,25-7,19-25,26-16) in Brayboy Gymnasium.
Senior
Gorana Bogdanovic and Freshman
Karizma Brooks combined for 26 kills in the match with Brooks recording five blocks (two solo). Â No Benedict player recorded double-figure kills with the Tigers finishing with a negative attack percentage (-.066).
JCSU Junior
Georgina Diaz and Freshman
Joi Haywood accumulated 37 of the team's 40 assists. Â Diaz added a game-high four service aces and 21 digs to the Golden Bulls victory.
Benedict's V'Aira harris led the Lady Tigers with eight kills. Ashleigh Reeves had 12 assists and Alia Gomes recorded a team-high 22 digs.
JCSU improves to 2-4 on the season while Benedict falls to 0-2.
Johnson C. Smith will begin conference play Saturday (September 8) with a trio of matches over the weekend. Â The Golden Bulls will open the CIAA Round-Up at noon on Saturday when they face Bowie State. Their second match of the day will be a 3:00 p.m. against Lincoln (Pa.). Â The Golden Bulls will close out the weekend on Sunday (September 9) against Virginia Union. Â All matches will be hosted in Manuel Rivero Hall on the Campus of Lincoln (Pa.) University.
