Imari Montalvo scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Johnson C. Smith women's basketball team to a 67-57 victory over Chowan, Thursday evening (Jan 10) in Brayboy Gymnasium. The win snapped a two-game losing streak.
Montalvo was joined by Jakeyah McNeil (16 pts, 4 rebs) and Denajah Porter (13 pts, 10 rebs) in pushing JCSU to its second CIAA win of the season.
Rayeesha Hewlett completed the double figure scorers with 12 points.
The Golden Bull women dominated the paint, outscoring Chowan's Hawks 40-30 in a game that featured four ties and five lead changes, mostly through the first three periods.
A 19-9 fourth quarter run proved to be the margin of victory.
With the win, JCSU improves to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in CIAA action.
Chowan falls to 8-6 (4-1 CIAA)
JCSU's women return to action Saturday, Jan 12 when they host the Vikings of Elizabeth City State. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in Brayboy Gymnasium.
