Frigid Second Half Dooms Golden Bulls

CHRLOTTE:  After taking a six point lead at halftime, the Johnson C. Smith men's basketball team shot a frigid 25% from the field in the second half to fall to Elizabeth City State, 76-63, Saturday afternoon (Jan 10) inside Brayboy Gymnasium.

The Golden Bulls were led by Cayse Minor with 20 points including a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line.  Rodddric Rose contributed 12 points but no other JCSU player scored in double figures.

ECSU's Vikings took advantage of the frost bitten Golden Bulls by shooting nearly 52% from the field (14 of 27) while JCSU struggled to can seven of their 28 attempts in the second half.  JCSU also doubled their turnovers from the first half.

The Vikings dominated in points in the painted area (32-17), rebound margin (46-36) and bench scoring (49-14) while holding JCSU to just 30% shooting for the game.

With the loss, JCSU falls to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in CIAA play.  Elizabeth City State, who had won six of their last 7 games, improves to 9-8 overall and 5-1 in the CIAA.

JCSU returns to action Monday, January 14, when they host Virginia State in a rescheduled game.  Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
