Despite leading at halftime, 36-32, Johnson C. Smith men's basketball suffered a frigid second half enroute to an 85-62 loss to Fayetteille State inside Brayboy Gymnasium Saturday afternoon (Jan 19).
JCSU shot just 25% from the field in the second half while FSU used a 38-13 run to close out the game.
After making seven of their 10 three-point attempts in the first half, the Golden Bulls made just one three-pointer during the entire second half.
JCSU's Roddric Ross scored a game high 24 points. Justice Goodloe added 10 points to the Golden Bull offense.
Fayetteville State was led by Nakia Rivers and Mark Burton with 19 points each. Ramon Pratt and Josh Bryant added 10 points apiece to the Broncos' victory.
JCSU's losing streak climbs to three as the Golden Bulls suffer their first Southern Division loss. The Golden Bulls fall to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Fayetteville State improves to 3-11 overall and 2-5 against CIAA opponents.
JCSU will begin an extended road trip when they travel to Jefferson City, TN to face Carson Newman University Monday, January 21. After the trip across state lines, the Golden Bulls return to Southern Division play when they travel to Raleigh to face St. Augustine's on Wednesday, January 23 followed by a trip to Salisbury to meet Livingstone on Saturday, January 26.
