Golden Bulls Stunned By Livingstone, 3-1

Charlotte, NC – Johnson C. Smith University women's volleyball team fell to Livingstone College, 3-1, Thursday evening at Brayboy Gymnasium. The Golden Bulls suffered a 26-24, 25-23, 16-25 and 27-25 loss in four sets to the Lady Blue Bears, including a season-low five kills in the second set.

The loss drops Smith to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play this season while Livingstone improves to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Gabrielle Wells had a team-best 13 kills and four blocks while Cydney Calhoun added 24 assists.

The Golden Bulls and Lady Blue Bears went toe to toe in the first set, with both teams started off quickly in the opening set, however the Golden Bulls went down 26-24. In the second frame, Smith showed a little more life after leading by six with the score standing 22-17 but LC kept its composure and was able to secure the set win sparked by a Golden Bulls miscue. Down 11-3, JCSU struggled to get anything going offensively in the fourth set as the Lady Blue Bears hit .143 compared to the Golden Bulls .097 to take the match victory.

Smith will return to Brayboy Gymnasium for a highly anticipated match versus division foe Claflin on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
