WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A late interception and two touchdowns in the contest left the Jonson C. Smith University football team heartbroken as the Golden Bulls fell 23-7 on the road to Winston-Salem State University in its Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division opener at Bowman Gray Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Golden Bulls to 2-4 overall,1-2 in league action and a 0-1 start in the division while the Rams improved to 2-4 on the season, 1-2 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the south.

Smith finished the contest with 113 total offense that featured just 59 yards through the air and 54 on the ground while WSSU totaled 318 yards, including 162 passing and 156 rushing.

Antonio Wallace replaced Malik Evans, who was injured, completed five-of-10 passes for 51 yards and one touchdown while
Emanuel Wilson registered three receptions for 36 yards and rushed for 48 yards a season low on 16 carries.

The Rams scored the game's first touchdown when Naiil Ramadan found receiver Darren in the endzone for 30 yards out, WSSU's extra-point would put the Rams up 7-0 over Smith with 14:00 left in the second quarter.Â

WSSU settled on a 19 yard field goal from Ivan Caro that would put the rams up 10-0 heading into halftime.

The Golden Bulls opened the second half, down but not out, as they pushed through when Wallace connected with
Donnell Thompson for the two-yard TD reception with :33 ticks on the clock to pull Smith within three.

Late in the fourth and with the help of miscues by Smith that ultimately set up the seven yard touchdown run by Quarderm Sloane and the 54 yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Allen sealed the win for WSSU.

Will Duhart for JCSU, recorded a game-high eight tackles (two solo), while Tiki Lawson-Oates added nine tackles.
The Golden Bulls will return to action Saturday, Oct. 19 at Irwin Belk Complex versus Fayetteville State at 1 p.m.
