Minor's 28 points lifts JCSU over Virginia State, 84-75

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division contest, the Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball program took down the Trojans of Virginia State University Thursday evening inside Brayboy Gymnasium by the score of 84-75.
 
Senior Cayse Minor paced the Golden Bullsin scoring with 28 points and six rebounds. Nenad Milenkovic chipped in 17 points, two rebounds and one assists while Justice Goodloe added 15 points and Xaiver Jones recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Trojans (0-3) opened up the contest on a 5-0 run however the Golden Bulls cut the lead with in one 7-6 on a free throw. The Golden Bulls would go up seven on a three pointer from Milenkovic. 

The final 1:44 in the first half, no team scored as the Golden Bulls went into the locker room leading 38-26.
 
At the break, JCSU shot 41 percent (13-of-31) from the field, including 30.3 percent (3-of-10) from behind the arc and 75.7 percent (9-of-12) from the foul line.
 
The Trojans went on an 11-5 spurt in the second half. Smith lead led 69-53 with 6:44 left but VSU fought back to close the gap to five points with the score showing 70-65 in favor of JCSU.
 
Smith would not relinquish the lead in the final minutes as Minor scored is 28th point at the free throw line to put the game out of reach for Virginia State.
 
Minor is two points away from reaching 1,000 for his career.
