Orangeburg, SC – The Golden Bull men dropped its third straight contest,falling short against the Claflin Panthers, 78-87.
Roddric Ross and
Cayse Minor lead the JCSU effort with 32 and 24 points respectively.
Nenad Milenkovic was the only other Golden Bull to finish in double figures.
The Panthers used a late first-half surge followed by a 22-4-run to start the second-half in gaining control of the game.
Both teams kept the game close throughout 15 minutes of the first half with neither team leading more than four points. The Panthers outscored the Golden Bulls 13-10 to lead 37-30 at halftime. Claflin carried that momentum into the first nearly 7 minutes of the second half where the Claflin offense built a 59-34 cushion.
The Golden Bulls then gained momentum themselves in the final 13 minutes by outscoring Claflin 44-28. The Golden Bulls cut the Panthers lead to 82-75 with 1:18 on three free throws from
Nenad Milenkovic.
Claflin closed out the contest by scoring five of the game's last eight points.
JCSU shot 41.7 percent from the floor against the Panthers 51.7 percent. JCSU was outrebounded by Claflin 46-24.
JCSU drops to 7-15 overall and 4-11 in CIAA conference play.
The Golden Bulls close out its home season Saturday (Feb 16) when they host division leader Livingstone inside Brayboy Gymnasium. It will be Senior Night with a tip off set for 6:00 p.m.
