Blaire Thomas collected 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Golden Bull Women defeated the Livingstone Blue Bears, 82-74 in a CIAA Southern Division matchup. Two other JCSU players also scored in double figures -
Malia Rivers with 21 and
Teana Lewis with 10.
Leading 19-17 after the first quarter, the Blue Bears opened the second quarter with the equalizer basket before going on an 11-0 run nearly five minutes in. JCSU would respond with a 9-0 run of its own with a minute remaining before halftime. Livingstone would use that last minute to outscore the Golden Bulls 8-1, to close out the first half leading by seven, 41-34.
JCSU took advantage of cold shooting by the Blue Bears in the second half to eventually lead by 5 near the end of the third quarter.
The teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter before the Golden Bulls sunk five free throws beginning at less than a minute and a half remaining in the game.
The Golden Bull Women improve to 14-12 overall, 11-5 in CIAA conference play.
The Golden Bull Women next travel to Winston-Salem, NC to battle the Rams of Winston-Salem State on Wednesday. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
