Raleigh, NC - The Johnson C. Smith Women's Tennis Team traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina Sunday and defeated CIAA rival Shaw University. At the time, Shaw held a win streak of 27 straight matches in the CIAA that dated back to 2017.

Leading off the event, JCSU's Aria Springfield, Junior History Major, showed her determination by defeating Shaw's Teodora Jovanovic in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-6(8) in the the No. 1 singles match.

In the No. 4 singles match, JCSU's Cierra Turner, Sophomore Business Administration major, triumphantly defeated Shaw's Kundai Manyonga after dropping the first set 2-6 by winning the next two sets 7-5, and 1-0(6).

After JCSU dropped the No. 1 doubles match 6-0, JCSU's Jada Strickland, Sophomore Chemistry major, and Nija Price, freshman, sent the message to their teammates that they were not going to lose the No. 2 doubles match by defeating Shaw's Kundai Manyonga and Eva Ostermeier 6-1, securing the JCSU overall win 5-2.

This win advances JCSU to 8-6 on the year and 6-0 in CIAA play while the Lady Bears fall to 9-4 overall and 7-1 in league play.
