BOWIE, MD - The Johnson C. Smith women's tennis team has advanced to the CIAA Championship match after defeating Virginia State 4-1 Friday afternoon
JCSU picked up a point in doubles competition and then took three of four singles matches to advance out of the semifinal round.
Jada Strickland and
Halle Parker defeated VSU's Kaela Mack and Sidney Yao, 6-2 with Arial Springfield and
Cierra Turner knocking off Christina Washington and Felica Tucker, 6-1 to claim the doubles point.
Strickland defeated Tucker in #4 singles, 6-0, 6-0
Turner took care of VSU's Zimans Smith in #5 singles, 6-1, 6-2
Aleena Oakley closed out the win defeating Deja Lovitt in #6 singles, 6-0. 6-0
Virginia State's only point came when Kaela Mack defeated JCSU's
Nija Price in #2 singles, 6-3, 6-1
With the win, the Golden Bulls advance to the CIAA Championship match to face, top-seeded Shaw University Saturday morning.
The two teams split during the regular season.
