Benedict Downs Golden Bulls Volleyball, 3-2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Taylor Smith and Gabrielle Wells each had stellar hitting performances, but it was not enough, as Benedict College defeated visiting Johnson C. Smith University, 3-2 in non conference volleyball action at the HRC Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Smith, notched a team-best of 14 kills, while hitting .565. Wells followed with 13 kills on the afternoon while Meqkylih Smith had seven kills.  Elyse Bonnett led JCSU with 21 assists and teammate Joi Haywood had 24 digs in the loss.

Benedict jumped up 2-0 early, surprising the Golden Bulls by taking sets one and two 25-19 and 25-18.  JCSU was able to rebound, taking the next two sets 25-22, 25-19 and forcing s deciding fifth game, however the Tigers won 15-8 to end the match.

The Tigers got 18 kills from V'Aira Harris and 15 from Adrionna Washington in the win.

The loss is JCSU first of the season.
